3 Illinois Plant Workers Killed, One Missing After an Explosion

By Jade Edwards

On Friday, May 3, after an explosion at AB Specialty Silicones, an industrial plant in Waukegan, Illinois, two men were found dead after being trapped. One person died of serious injury after being taken to the hospital, and one person is still missing.  The three people who got trapped are said to have been the ones to warn others in the plant about the explosion before the blast. With nine people working in total during that time, those men may have saved five lives with their warning.

The investigation resumed Monday, May 6 at 9am to look into what may have caused the explosion as well as search for the missing worker.  As of right now, the explosion is only suspected to be an accident, not any sort of purposeful act, but the cause is still unknown.
