Formula 1 drivers face tax scandal

by Nolan Sickels

Formula 1’s most recent scandal includes every driver that isn’t an Italian driver. This includes names like Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and other Formula 1 stars.

This tax scandal all started because an Italian lawyer named Alessandro Mei had put in a complaint saying that the Italian government had most likely been missing out on a lot of money because he claimed that Formula 1 drivers are not being taxed correctly or not paying their Italian tax at all, according to Yahoosports.com.

In Italy, like many other countries, the athletes are taxed where they perform. So if they raced in Italy, they have to pay taxes in Italy for the money they made in that race.

Currently no one has been arrested, but it is something that is currently being investigated by Guardia Di Finanza according to Grandprix.com and Yahoosports.com. There isn’t a list of names released, yet if a driver is not a part of an Italian squad, they most likely will be getting investigated.

There’s even a few people who are retired or not on the Formula 1 roster who are a part of the investigation because it spans all the way back to 2020.

This could possibly affect the next F1 season.
