Current juniors Ella Kapfhammer and Anson Jang were recently elected president and vice president, along with senators Olive Varvel and Camilla Bozzuto.
“I am very excited to plan senior sunrise, spirit weeks, and homecoming events,” Kapfhammer said. “ Along with everything else that makes senior year special.”
Kapfhammer has been elected every year since freshman year, helping plan many events such as the Talent Show, Prom, Homecoming, and more.
“I ran for President because I want to make Bellbrook High School the best place possible for all students,” Kapfhammer said. “I have always loved serving others and have lots of experience in leadership positions, so I was excited for the opportunity to run for this office.”
At the end of every school year, elections are held for government officers for the following school year. For freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, four senators/representatives are elected to represent their grade. For seniors, two senators are elected, alongside a president and vice president.
This school year, seniors Erin Secody and Roshan Patel acted as president and vice president, alongside senators Josiah Wolverton and Gabe Woods.
“Going into elections I knew that the vice president dealt with a lot of the money aspects of student government,” Patel said. “I didn’t realize how many other senior events there were to plan. “
The largest event of the year for student government is Homecoming. For the entire first quarter, all representatives from all four grades collaborate to decide theme, decorations, advertising, and more.
The seniors are also tasked with planning out the various senior events held throughout the year. This includes senior sunrise, PowderPuff, senior t-shirts, senior cookout, senior sunset, senior Kings Island Trip, paint fight, and multiple senior sport nights.
For the past couple years, the senior officers have decided to split up the different events, having one officer be the main contributor, and the other officers supporting them.
“This year, I had the responsibility of planning senior sunrise,” senior senator Josiah Wolverton said. “I didn’t realize how much went into planning the events, between the social media posts, the food, the games, the music, there are a lot of different things to take care of.”
