Israel and Gaza have been firing missiles at each other since July 8 due to the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers, their bodies found on June 30. Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the boys were victims of “terrorists.” Israel arrested over 300 Palestinians, mostly members of Hamas.
Both sides increased their firing of missiles but Israel remained largely unaffected because of their anti-missile capabilities. The U.S condemned Hamas’s rocket fire on July 8 and the U.S considers Hamas to be a terror organization. This conflict occurred after two years of peace between the two areas.
An open-ended cease fire is currently in place and Hamas claims victory over Israel although many of Hamas’s demands such as the removal of border regulation have still been unmet. More serious debates for a lasting peace are still to come.
