Traffic causes headaches on first day back to school

The district continues to evaluate traffic patterns. Picture taken during the Tuesday morning drop-off, September 21.

On August 18, 2021, Bellbrook students returned back to school, and while many children were anxious to see their friends, teachers, parents, and student drivers were anxious about getting to school on time. Community members trying to drive on Upper Bellbrook Road from the times of 7:30 am to 8:30 am were in dead stop traffic due to the newly designed pick up and drop off lane incorporated in Bell Creek Intermediate’s parking lot.

For the past few years, Bellbrook Sugarcreek Schools has struggled with finding a sufficient pickup and drop off area for the students who attend BCI. With the help of some local engineers, a new pick up and drop off area was designed to try and make the process go more smoothly, but it ended up causing a lot of frustration instead.  “I left my house thirty minutes before school started and I made it to class a minute before the bell rang,” says a Bellbrook High School senior.

Since then, the traffic has become significantly better with the help of Bellbrook’s police department facilitating traffic movement between Bellbrook High School and Bell Creek Intermediate before and after school.
