Archbishop McNicholas scored a victory over Bellbrook Saturday, October 25, winning all three sets. The match marked the OHSAA’s Southwest District Volleyball finals and launched the Rockets, as well as Alter and Kenton Ridge, into the regional finals.
Becca Rogers, junior and outside hitter for the Eagles, cites the team’s lack of momentum on Saturday as the source of their loss. “We were equal to McNicholas in skill level, but we played flat the entire time.” She says, “We never played with that level of confidence.”
Despite their loss, the Eagles still finished the season strong with an overall record of 21 wins to only 3 losses, making them second in the SWBL and first in the Southwestern League.
“Everyone always knew what part they needed to play for us to succeed. I really enjoyed the unity we had both on and off the court,” Rogers says. She hopes they win League again next year as a senior and make it past district finals for the first time since 2007.
McNicholas lost to Alter October 29 at the neutral location of Wilmington High School, where Alter won all three sets. Archbishop Alter will face off with Kenton Ridge October 31 at Wilmington High School at 2:00 for a chance to continue on in the tournament.
